Sarah Palin was the 11th Governor of Alaska. She ran for Vice President of the United States in 2008. McCain chose her as his pick to reinvigorate his campaign. McCain's move paid off as Palin was received with great enthusiasm by the Republicans. However, support for Palin started to go down after interviews with the media in which she was seen as a candidate that was not well versed in foreign relations.

Despite these setbacks she enjoyed fervent support from most Republicans. However, she was not able to win over independents who moved away from the Republican party in favor of Obama who had a very highly qualified VP candidate: Joe Biden.

After the election, Sarah Palin eventually resigned as the Governor of Alaska. She is still seen by some as a possible candidate for the 2012 election.
